At the present time, several projects are at different phases of preparation or are already carried out; they will have a great impact on the traffic scheme in the City of Brno. These are the extension of the tramline to the University Campus in Bohunice, the extension of the Greater Urban Ring Road (GURR) in a section between Pisarky and Zabovresky, including a relocation of the tramline to a tunnel, and the planned construction of a road tunnel beneath Vinohrady, which is also part of the GURR. Engineering geology and geotechnics are the traditional fields of activities of GEOtest, a.s. and it is thus logical that our experts participate in all of the projects given above, whether concerning survey work or monitoring.
Most progressed is the construction of a cut-and-cover tunnel for the extension of the tramline from Osova to the Masaryk University Campus in Bohunice. Practically along the whole route, the structures are complete for securing the walls (diaphragm walls, riders, anchors, piles) and soil began to be excavated from the tunnel profile. In addition to the monitoring of structures forming the tunnel itself, the monitoring is also focused on the surroundings of the construction site – on the adjacent buildings, groundwater, and the like.

Securing the walls using anchored riders and building a temporary bridge over Jihlavska Street.

Finished ceiling of a tunnel tube in the southern part of the construction, construction is taking place there in close proximity to prefabricated houses which are closely monitored.
Within construction I/42 Brno GURR Zabovreska I, Stage II, GEOtest, a.s. operates as the leader of the consortium of monitoring carried out for the investor, which is the Road and Motorway Directorate of the Czech Republic. Currently, preparation work is being carried out, such as the cleaning of the slopes and demolition; the construction itself will begin in the spring.

The Vinohrady Tunnel in Brno is only in the design phase and GEOtest, a.s. is currently carrying out a preliminary geotechnical survey for the currently planned scenario of the tunnel route. It comprises exploratory boreholes (down to a depth of 75 m), geophysical measurement from the surface as well as from boreholes, tests in the field and laboratory tests. The output will also include, among others, a 3D model of the surface of bedrock, which is one of the key factors influencing the feasibility of the construction project.
