Baguio Drinking Water Treatment Stations, The Philippines
Implementation of the project comes within the priorities of the Philippine government in accordance with the main demands of the country for its future development. The idea of the project is to ensure a sufficient source of drinking water for the Baguio town and its vicinity, in terms of quantity and quality.
The Baguio city is an important regional centre in the Philippines, anticipating the growth in population along with the expansion of industry and economy. In the past, the town suffered the substantial deficit of drinking water supply. For instance, in summer just about eighty percent of people were provided with drinking water for four hours twice a week. The drinking water deficit was 40,000 m3/day against actual demands.
The project is aimed to the quality of the existing local water sources giving a total yield of 12,500 m3/day. The water needs special treatment for its high levels of iron, non-conforming acidity and high silt content.
The project was undertaken as a development aid of the Czech Republic to the Philippines. The project implementation time is 2001 - 2004. The gestor is the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic; the Philippine counterpart is the National Economic and Development Authority. The co-ordinators are the Consortium INKOS Brno and the Baguio Water District.
