Mapping of Illegal Dumps on the Territory of the Republic of Cyprus (Unoccupied Territories), Including Preparation of All Materials for Their Security
Stage 1: Mapping of illegal dumps in the Paphos prefecture, compilation of a table of their risk level
The project "Mapping of Illegal Dumps on the Territory of the Republic of Cyprus" was approved by a decision of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Cyprus in June 2005. GEOtest Brno a.s. participated in the project on behalf of the Czech party, ENVIROPLAN A.E. on behalf of the Greek party, and the supervising body was the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Cyprus in Nicosia (especially the service of inspectors of the environment).
Stage 2: A detailed hydrogeo-ecological evaluation of ten riskiest dumps on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus
Basic goals of the project:
Year 2005
- A detailed mapping and geological-hydroecological assessment of dumps in the Paphos prefecture, including photographic documentation and surveying by means of a GPS
- Evaluation of ten riskiest dumps on the territory of the whole Cyprus based on the completed mapping of other prefectures by the company ENVIROPLAN
- Start of a detailed survey with groundwater sampling, photographic and video documentation and evaluation of hydroecological risks for dumps Ayia Marinouda, Tersephanou, Xylophagou and Ayia Napa
- Preparation of final reports of Stage 1
Year 2006
- A detailed mapping of other sites (e.g. Paralimni, Agros, Phrenaros and Paliometocho)
- Preparation of final reports of Stage 2
- Consultations of a final report of the whole work
The works carried out by the company GEOtest Brno, a.s. in the year 2005:
- Reconnaissance of the area of interest
- Mapping of individual sites in collaboration with inspectors of the environment of the Republic of Cyprus
- Photographic documentation of sites
- Identification of the history of individual sites through interviews with local mayors and citizens
- Evaluation of the order of risk level
- A detailed survey of the first part of ten riskiest sites
- Preparation of survey reports

- A detailed survey of the second part of ten riskiest sites
- Preparation of survey reports
- Consultations during the final preparation of the whole work
