Assessment of Bottom Sediments, Shipwrecks and Unexploded Ammunition in the Area of the Port of Umm Quasr and River Canals Khawr Al Zubair, Khawr Shatanah and Khawr Abd Allah and Training of Experts for the Preparation of Implementation

Description of the project:

  • Survey of the port of Umm Quasr and adjacent navigation canals for the occurrence of shipwrecks and unexploded ammunition
  • Survey of selected shipwrecks
  • Proposal of a method of removing shipwrecks
  • Sampling of bottom sediments
  • Chemical and geotechnical analyses of samples
  • Proposal of a method of excavation of bottom sediments for deepening the port of Umm Quasr
  • Preparation of a feasibility study

The individual works have been proposed in such a way so that the result is a study serving as a basic material for the preparation of an implementation project of the rehabilitation and increase of the traffic capacity of the port Umm Quasr. Part of it was also the training of experts for the preparation of implementation.

Evaluation of the Existing Groundwater Sources in the Area of the Shanidari Plain in Kurdistan and Training of Experts for the Implementation of a Hydrogeological Survey

The individual works have been proposed in such a way so that the result is a study serving as a basic material for the preparation of an implementation project for the intensification of the exploitation of groundwater sources in the area of the Shanidari Plain.

The works were divided into the following stages:

  • Review of available data
  • Updating of hydrogeological data and a preliminary hydrogeological survey
  • Calculation of balances for individual aquifers
  • Preparation of a methodological manual
  • Training of experts for a hydrogeological survey
